SOCIAL CAPITAL PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS:

When we were at last years ACE conference one of the speakers (opening I think) talked about Social Capital, who made us feel important, who would miss us if we weren’t there, what we can do to get Social Capital, make new friends (not necessarily people with a disability). We asked ourselves,  what can we do to give back to a community that supports us in all our fundraising etc.  We challenged ourselves to come up with ways to give to the community, make new friends and Create some social Capital for ourselves, join us on our year long journey. Then we would like to  challenge everyone  to come up with ways to do this for their  group or self!

LEADERSHIP PRESENTATION:

Message: EVERYONE can be a leader!

We want to have an interactive discussion about different types of leadership styles, qualities of a good leader and the importance of good communication.

We plan on doing 3 leadership based group activities focusing on team work, qualities that you have as a leader and an exercise in effective communication.

We want to also talk about how you can become a leader in your community and have the ATEAM share stories of how they have become leaders within their communities.  We have a few members who have great stories to share.

WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO

The Community Living Durham North advocate group  is a group with a mission and a vision.   The ATEAM (Advocates –Together Each Achieves More)  is on a mission to advocate for our rights, and for those who may not be able to, with confidence and understanding.  The ATEAM vision is to have a community where everyone belongs.   We are a group that consists of 6 executive members who attend regular meetings, prepare  presentations on topics such as leadership, abuse, rights and responsibilities and social capital, and we’re actively involved within the north Durham communities and can be seen at special events across the region.  We’d love to train others on the rights and responsibilities and abuse prevention of people with disabilities.   Community Awareness is our goal!
